When we first started hosting house concerts, Peter Mulvey was one artist that we wanted to show up on our concert radar. “I like making records,” reflects songwriter Peter Mulvey, “but my job is the live show: getting up in a room and taking people somewhere.” Peter’s latest tour is for his 12th CD, Letters From A Flying Machine.

“This discs is actually more like a live show than any record I have made. Through the songs and stories on this album, I’m trying to figure out what actually lasts a long time," Mulvey explains. “So it is set up to listen all the way through to take this voyage. I want the listener to hear the end of the album differently than they heard the beginning. It’s a record that’s actually about something. This is an old human statement, I know, but when all else has crumbled, love is the only thing that is real.”

Peter is an avid bicyclist and an advocate of clean sustainable living. “No matter what you do, it’s worth asking yourself if you can do it differently, if you can do it more sustainably. Can I bike to work? Even if ‘work’ takes me a thousand miles? For me, that’s a question that’s been challenging and very, very fun to answer. And it’s a question each of us owes it to future generations to ask.” For the past three years the bicycle has been Peters mode of transportation for his fall tour schedule. Visiting the bio page on Peter's website you'll read that, "Over the past 20 years, Mulvey has pursued a restless, eclectic path as a writer and musician – immersing himself in Tin PanAlley jazz, modern acoustic, poetry, narrative, and Americana stylings. Relentlessly touring as a headliner – his attitude is, “When you love what you do, you can work all the time,” – he has also shared the stage with luminaries such as Emmylou Harris, Richard Thompson, Ani diFranco, Indigo Girls, and Greg Brown, and has attracted an audience that stretches from Anchorage to Amsterdam."

“Peter Mulvey is consistently the most original and dynamic of the US singer-songwriters to tour these shores. A phenomenal performer with huge energy, a quick fire, quirky take on life, and an extraordinary guitar style. A joy to see.” ~ The Irish Times.

Purchase Artist CDs

Signed merchandise (CDs, books, shirts, etc.) are available for sale directly from the artist at the house concert for $15.00 each (unless otherwise noted).

Purchased items (CDs and books in particular) will be personally signed by the artist. (If we can convince them to kiss the album before we put it in the package, they'll do that too!) PayPal links will be processed through Blue Ridge Cabin Concert Series, and all proceeds (minus PayPal fees) go directly to the artist. Shipping fees will be added to the cost of the purchase and are as follows:

Shipping is $2.50 for one item, $3.50 for 2 items, $4.50 for 3 items, $5.50 for 4 items, and $6.50 for 5 and up items. (International rates are $5 for one item, $9 for 2 items, $12 for 3, $15 for 4 or more items.) We will ship 1st Class unless the total package weight is more than 13 ounces, in which case we will ship media mail (slower). Sorry, we don't offer any faster shipping methods (UPS / FedEx) because the prices tend to be ridiculous. The shipping cost is meant to cover the actual shipping cost and isn't some hidden profit center. You will see the shipping cost when you view your cart or otherwise finalize your order.

If you want the artist to write something special on your item (CDs, books, etc.) please include that in the "Add Special Instructions To Merchant" box. Otherwise, they will try to personalize each CD if we can figure out your name.

“On the Way” DVD

2004

In 2001, Peter Mulvey went into the subways of Boston to record his fifth album, Ten Thousand Mornings. Parts of the recording project were caught on video by independent filmmakers, Aaron, Seth, and Justin Howland, three brothers more formally known as 7 Fluid Oz. Productions. With just a little rough footage, On the Way had its start.
Following the release of Ten Thousand Mornings, the Howlands spent nine months capturing Peter’s engaging and dynamic above-ground performances at venues in and around Boston, including the beautiful 800-seat Somerville Theatre and the intimate Club Passim in Harvard Square. The result is a 70-minute slice of Peter’s performing life, featuring concert footage, clips of Peter performing in the subway, interview segments, behind-the-scenes snippets, and some very special guests including David Goodrich, Kris Delmhorst, Jeffrey Foucault, Jennifer Kimball, Erin McKeown, Chris Smither, Sean Staples, and Anita Suhanin.
DVD includes the songs: Two Janes / Wings of the Ragman / Road to Mallow / Mama, You Been On My Mind / If Love is Not Enough / The Dreams / The Trouble with Poets / Sad, Sad, Sad, Sad (and Faraway from Home) / Shirt / Rain and Snow / Bright Idea / On the Way Up / Tender Blindspot / The Ocean / Out Here
RUNNING TIME: 1 hr 04 mins
BONUS MATERIAL: Deleted Scenes, Discography, Trailer, Recommended Further Listening.
FEATURES: Presented in Widescreen Format, Dolby Digital Stereo, Interactive menus, Color and Black & White FORMATTED to play on universal players.
