Welcome to the Blue Ridge Cabin Concert Series page on the Blue Ridge Wiki. This concert series was founded for the purpose of providing a performance venue opportunity for independent musicians touring through the area and for providing an intimate musical experience for the folk of Blue Ridge GA, Fannin County, and the surrounding Tri-state communities.

Founded in 2007 by Randy & Norma Bean, the series was originally held in their cabin in McCaysville, GA and hosted three concerts.

  • 2007 ~ Rich Baumann - Rich was the artist that encouraged and inspired the pursuit of hosting concerts. First remote concert event, hosted by a listener, aired live on Whole Wheat Radio. I'll get the exact date and pictures uploaded.
  • December 2008 ~ Danny Schmidt & Carrie Elkin
  • November 2009 ~ Korby Lenker Photos

In January 2010, the series received it's official name and Kip & Shelley Draper joined Randy & Norma in the hosting and further development of the series. Kip & Shelley offered their beautiful cabin office down in the Aska Adventure Area of Blue Ridge, GA as the new venue location. The new location will allow for a larger local audience and is located in a beautiful area across the road from the Toccoa River.

The concert series is founded on the house concert concept, which is quickly growing as a means of supporting independent musicians during their tours, while at the same time providing a means of enjoying great music in an intimate setting with friends. Beginning with the Korby Lenker concert, Kip Draper volunteered to start video streaming of the concerts via Ustream.tv that was met with good success. This first live concert topped over 100 on-line viewers.

At the cabin, folk come and enjoy the music in an intimate setting, meet the artists, and meet new friends. Whole Wheat Radio often will stream the concerts live as well, which provides listeners throughout the world the opportunity to virtually attend, listen, and support the artists. A large text "chat-o-prompter" monitor is set up for the artist to interact with the on-line audience that also provides a fun and unique experience for everyone in attendance. Friends and family of the artist often show up on-line to watch and participate in the event. The whole streaming video and audio experience provides fans of the artist, who because of their location and artist tour schedule may not otherwise get to see a live performance.

Artist

The artist that will be hosted at the BRCCS will be artist who are actively pursuing their passion and career in music through the production and distribution of CD's or online compilations, active tour schedules, and an independent spirit about the ownership and rights of the music that they produce. Genres of music will include: singer/songwriter, folk, americana, bluegrasss, acoustic, blues, jazz, western, country, etc.

Most, if not all, of the musicians that we host will have sent their music to Whole Wheat Radio. We understand there are several music sites and opportunities for artists on the internet, however Whole Wheat Radio offers more than just another music website; it combines a large variety/mix of music and connection to the artist along with a very friendly, real time and committed community of listeners and supporters of independent music.
